What up and welcome to our continuing celebration of Black History Month. I hope you have begun to celebrate the month in your own way or at least wished your favorite Black person a Happy B.H.M. It's just the polite thing to do. As for the countdown, we are well on our way to #1. Today, it's time to reveal Luke's 26th favorite TV character. Let's do it.Luke's Take: Cleveland is Peter Griffin's best friend and next door neighbor. His slow way of talking make for some memorable lines. Cleveland also has a way of playing the "black" card with his friends that reminds me of Barnes at times. As you will notice, the black-white relationship will reappear quite often during this journey. The Cleveland-Peter relationship is the first of many.
My Take: When we thought of this list and discussed whether cartoons could be used or not, Cleveland was one of those cartoons I had in mind. As the token black guy on "Family Guy", he is an hilarious character who like George Jefferson will be movin' on up to his own sitcom soon. Plus, I love how Family Guy doesn't portray Cleveland in a bad way. He's just a go-to guy for idiot Peter, always there for his friend in his times of stupidity.
I'm glad to see also that Luke is finding characters that have a good relationship with a white person. Just think how far we've come in this society that not only are black people even on TV, but they are friends with white people, the same people that enslaved them and treated them like dirt. Funny how a little common sense can change minds.
