Get that stick out of your ***
I’m not sure if you know this or not, but I am a 20 year old student in college. I have lofty goals for myself and am looking forward to my future. I know the real world will kick my ass because the reality will hit that well, it’s not that much fun anymore. I recognize that. I understand that maturity and professionalism is key in the real world. But wait, I am a 20 year old college student in college. Ah, I see now.
OK, so where am I going with this? It’s a long story but I’m gonna try to explain in a much shorter and entertaining blog entry instead. The more I go through college, the more I see that adults cannot connect with people my age. Sad I know, since they once were my age, enjoying every second of college, knowing that those 4-5 years were magical. Yes, magical. But now that they are adults, it’s as if they forget those times. All they can focus on is our future and how THEY can shape OUR future. Now, I’m all for role models and life lessons but I am also for making my own decisions and learning from my own mistakes. Would you like some examples? I thought so. Read on.
I guess this whole thing started in high school with student council. I was the VP of what was probably the best student council my HS has ever seen. Plain and simple, we got shit done. At least, when we were allowed. My school had the dumbest rules when it came to some things. Guys can’t have braids because it’s considered cross-dressing. All socks must be visible. No shorts ever even when the AC goes out in the school. I could go on and on but I won’t because I did enjoy my high school experience. But sometimes, it would be like pulling teeth just to get something we wanted. And obviously, whatever we asked for was for the good of the students. But again, the administration didn’t look at it that way. Instead of giving us the opportunity to make good decisions and maybe learn from some mistakes, they just made decisions for us. Such as now, the prom includes dinner. Don’t wanna attend the dinner? No problem, but you’re paying for it anyways. Frickin ridiculous.
Then, how bout my scholarship? I know, this may shock some people. Why is Barnes complaining…he gets paid to go to school. Trust me guys, I’ve heard your jokes but hear me out now. Just this past week, my scholarship laid down some laws. To give you some background, I do go to school on full scholarship and then some. I have to sign a contract as well that states that I will keep up with the GPA requirement, not get in trouble, attend all meetings, etc… Well, this year, the program has been a bit power-hungry. First of all, we sign a contract that says nothing about community service, but then we have to a mandatory six hours. Hmmm, odd. I’ll do it, but that came from nowhere. Next up, the scholarship says we must inform them when we add or drop a class. So, if I drop basketball for broomball, they need to know. WHY? Do they not trust me? I mean, the money runs out in four years so if I screw myself over and don’t get done in four years, it’s my money now. And what’s the final straw? How bout they told us this week that they don’t want us getting jobs. WHAT?! This one struck a chord with me. As they put it, we are scholars and should be focusing on our studies. God forbid we try to have a life outside of that though. A life with a little bit of responsibility and spending money. You know, something to pay cell phone bills with, car insurance, buy beverages, whatever. So if we get a job, guess who needs to know? Again, ridiculous.
The last one isn’t as dramatic but after the scholarship one, it really got to me. As we run our big program for Intramurals, I get a lot of grief for announcements not even made by me. The announcements were questionable and they were made to a crowd of about 100 people. So I understand some of their feelings. But without setting any guidelines of what was too far, it’s hard to put fault on someone for making an announcement they see as funny. I didn’t think they crossed any lines because there were no lines drawn. Not only that, but the only people who did not find the jokes funny were those who weren’t my age. Now are they out of touch? Maybe (though many times, they aren’t). This night though, it was frustrating because I was receiving fault for what other people did. And then what they did wasn’t really wrong since there was nothing set as to what was right and what was wrong.
I guess what I am trying to get at here is that adults are trying too hard to shape people my age into what they want. They are unwilling to let us learn from mistakes OR make our own decisions. They tend to be out of touch with our generation and do not consider the world from our point of view anymore. Even though, all had the point of view before. And don’t get me wrong. I love my high school, scholarship program, and my job but it can be frustrating sometimes. It’s not that I have a problem with authority. I just have a problem when the authority thinks a 20 year old college student can’t make their own decision. Or when they do, they immediately believe that it is invalid. Or get mad when the college student makes a decision they don’t like when no guidelines were set. Instead of getting mad, make it a learning opportunity.
I don’t know what the solution to this is but I do know this. I am capable of making my own decisions. I will make many good ones and plenty of bad ones. But let me make them. Support me in some so that I can see how it carries out. Do not lash out if I make a bad decision. Instead, just tell me what was wrong about it. The great thing about college is that it can kind be a bubble. Things that happen during these 4-5 great years can truly stay there for eternity. So let us make our mistakes now. That way, we don’t make them in the real world. If I mess up a class, it’s my fault. If I can’t handle a job and my classes, I can decide whether or not to drop classes or quit my job. I just wish some people would take that stick out their *** and allow people my age to live. Let us do what we do. No matter what, we are in control of our lives. We shape it into what we want to. So please, let us be. Have faith in us. We can make good decisions…if you let us.
You know the drill. Until next time, HAKUNA MATATA

A TRUE FRIEND....ACCORDING TO ME
So, I just went through my third Halloween here at OU. Yea, literally just got done with it. Did I get wasted? Not really. I've learned that of all the days to get sloppy, Halloween is not the day. The student population almost triples, the amount of police double, and the amount of arrests, well, let's just say there are more than most weekends. So what does one do on a Halloween night in Athens? Good question. The answer: enjoy yourself. That could mean get sloppy drunk, it could mean go uptown and look at ridiculous costumes, it could mean go to a dance at Baker Center or it could simply be just have a good time with some friends. For me, this Halloweenwas an odd one. Let me tell you why.
First of all, this Halloween started earlier than others. Startig in mid-afternoon with a power hour, I got the ball rolling. Yes, I didn;t have much in my stomach but it felt right to get going early. I enjoyed the time, chillin with a best bud and his friend, just casually drinking while watching some college football. I mean, seriously, you can't ask for much more. Then, we all decided, let's take a cat nap and wake up when more peeps get here. That ended up meanig have them wake us up when they walk in unexpectedly but hey, whatever works.
The time with the new peepswas kind of a blur because well, to be frank, it wasn't that much fun because of a weird feeling in the place that kind of dampened the mood for me. The sad thing is that the feeling should not have affected me but for some reason it did and as a friend, I felt like I should back him up completely and help him out. So when it was time to leave the apartment for the Halloween festival uptown and elsewhere, I was glad to see a group of people, especially one person, go with us to go have a good time.
Instead of recapping the enitre rest of the night, I'm gonna fast-forward to the part that matters. The part where I began to figure out what a true friend is. I know, it's odd that I figure this shit out on a night when I am supposed to not remember anything but again, Halloween isn't a big deal for me. Anyways, the moment came when I, self-admittedly, brought up something that I was completely wrong about. That's when my friend did something I didn't really expect him to do: tod me I WAS WRONG. I kinda took a step back on this, halfway thinking he was joking. I mean, did my own friend NOT support my decision? I was actually getting mad and then I talked to his best friend and after talking to him, it made sense. Not only was I wrong, but he was proving to me that he was a true friend.
So what is a true friend? Well, get rid of Webster's Dicionary and just read my take on this. In my mind, a true friend is one that respects you. Of course, this is an obvious one but sometimes, this can be tougher than you think. Friends do some dumb things AND believe in some odd things, things you may completely disagree in. The trick is though as a good friend, you back them up in what they believe in. UNLESS, bringing me to my second point, they are completely wrong. This can be tough for friends, because when you have a strong friendship with someone, the last thing you want is to end it over a dumb argument or criticism. But when a friend criticizes my thought process or points an inconsistency in my morals, it means a lot to me because that means they care about what I'm doing. They could easily turn their head OR just be a bobblehead doll and just nod to everything I say. Thankfully though, there are true friends who are willing to speak up and tell you things straight up, without reservation. The last thing about a true friend is that they're always there for ya. In this day and age, it's tough to find that kind of commitment to a friendship, especially once relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends get involved. It's jut pretty damn cool to know there's always a friend you can talk to about anything, whether it pertains to school, work, religion, family, friends, or just whatever.
So what does this all mean? I'm not really sure. I don't know ifI have really spelled out anything but I think I have helped clarify what exactly goes behind a true friend. True friends are hard to ome by and then even harder to keep. Stuff happens, no matter how big or small, that can ruin a friendship within seconds. That's why it is so important to have those best friends you can talk to whenever needed. For those moments in life where you need a second opinion on something or just want to vent about anything, having that true friend makes the expereience all the more better.
For now though, I digress because of time considerations but I do want to remind all those reading this that being a true friend means more than just leaving Facebook wall message. It means so much more. HAKUNA MATATA.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES
I know what you’re thinking…can’t he be more creative than that for a blog title? Well, the answer is yes but that phrase just seems so fitting after going through the last two weeks. As a young man at 20 years of age, life is supposed to be one of little worries. I mean, of course there’s the real world ahead but I mean, it’s college. Soak it up while you can. But it’s funny how your life can change in an instant. Your priorities change, your thought process changes, your whole world is just thrown for a loop. Well, that’s kinda been the two weeks for me.
I guess it all started two weeks ago (obviously). What I thought was a harmless phone call from a buddy turned into a phone call that made me take a step back. A former wrestler at my high school had died at the age of nineteen. 19! I remember giving this guy rides homes after practice, always bitching about how it was out of my way and that it would be the last time. Yet, every practice, without fail, he asked for a ride and I drove him the 4 minutes to his house. I look back at those moments and I am so glad that I had those rides with him because now, there are no more moments. Yea, we had fallen out of touch but I know if I saw him right now, we would have some great stories to tell each other. It just didn’t make sense either. The whole situation. And not only that but someone that young should not be dying. It just made me sick to my stomach.
After a weekend of trying to get the taste of his death out of my mouth, it just got worse. I get news that my best friend’s mom had a stroke. My immediate reaction was shock, followed by immediate prayer. I had already lost a friend at a young age. In no way could I lose one of my many “moms”. But God had other plans. The next day, I got the news that she had been called to heaven. Now, I’m the kind of guy that likes to stay positive and upbeat and well, you know, Hakuna Matata. But this one hit hard. Really hard. I was numb inside for over an hour. Life just didn’t make sense. It went back to that question “Why do the nicest people go?” The more I thought about it, the more I thought about my own life. I mean, am I truly living each day as if it were my last? Am I truly cherishing every moment with my friends and family? Again, these are things I shouldn’t be worrying about as a college student. But when you lose two people in a span of a week, you have no choice but to wonder.
The memorial service on Saturday for my best friend’s mom was exactly what I needed though. For what is normally a somber event, I was so at peace the entire time. I was surrounded by people who are always there for me, including my parents and best friends. I saw strength in my friends who had just lost their mother and that helped to put my mind at ease. I saw commitment and love (yes, I used the word) in their boyfriends for them as well. Always by their side throughout the ordeal. Most importantly though, I saw just how close we all are as friends. I wish it didn’t take the passing of a loved one for me to recognize it but it did. And the ironic thing is that my best friend’s mother was not one for the sappy stuff. She was more of the “don’t worry, be happy” kind. Grab a drink and enjoy life. And so while all week I was lamenting and somewhat depressed, it took her memorial service to remind me that life goes on and that she wants me to keep on enjoying life even though she won’t be there.
And so, I left that service thinking just that. It’s time for me to truly enjoy life. Yes, as each day goes by, there will be ups and downs, but hopefully more ups. I will have more struggles, more setbacks, more deaths but I’ve got to remember that in order to live a fulfilling life, not only must you be loved and respected by many, but you must also enjoy it yourself. Cherish every moment. Take some chances. See all you can see. And that brings me to right now. I wouldn’t say I have a “new” outlook on life but I have thought about this a lot since the memorial service. I am just 20 years old. Hopefully, I have at least 60 more years in me. In that 60 years, how am I going to enjoy life?
Step 1: Stop thinking that damn far ahead and enjoy the moment right now.
Step 2: Repeat Step 1.

LEAST FAVORITE WORDS FOR $600 ALEX....
When I started writing this blog entry, I actually had about 5 paragraphs written and then just as fast as you can say "Let your chain hang low", I deleted it all, never to see it again. Why? Because a new thought popped in my head and the thought of having a chance to elaborate on this intrigued me. See, when I write on this blog, all I do is type. I don't think. I just let my fingers roll across the keyboard and hope they write something logical. I don't consider myself a great writer. I consider myself a great bull-shitter and that's fine with me. In the end, it gets the job done. So what is this topic that I deleted 30 minutes worth of rambling for? It's actually just one word, but it's a word that I can't stand: disappointment.
So what it is about this word that makes me want to write a whole blog entry arond it? Well, a lot actually. I just went through a two-month ordeal that drained the hell out of me and really made me think about this. I try hard not to disappoint people. Yea, it's a lofty goal because it's impossible to please everyone but when I see disappoint in people's faces, it hurts me inside because life is too short to fill it with disappointment. It could be disappointment in yourself, in someone else, in the President, the world, whatever. Whatever it is, it tears away at your body and your soul. Well for me, the disappointment came from others, but it was in me. And though they may not admit it, I know they were. And as I saw it in their eyes, I felt terrible inside because all that I had strived for was getting thrown at me like a cannonball to the face. PAINFUL. I did a lot of soul searching over those two months and found out a lot about myself. And now as I look back at it, I am so glad that it happened.
See, the thing about disappointment for me is that is just leaves this feeling of emptiness, this thirst that has yet to be quenched. When I disappoint a tour group with my performance or my answer, it hurts because you can see they were yearning for so much more and you didn't fulfill their needs. When I disappoint intramural participants, I actually don't feel too bad for them because well, dems the rules bitch! When I disappoint Southeast Ohio on the TV show though, it does hurt. Honestly, a lot of people in the area tune in just to watch their teams, their sons or just themselves and when we don't produce a quality show to the people that adore us like rock stars, it kills me inside. We do the show for them so when we put through a crappy performance, it makes it seem like we're not giving it all we've got (or in other words, slacking off). That disappointment is a tough one to shake off. Thankfully, there's always next Friday night. When I disappoint co-workers, this also gets to me because as I garner more responsibility, I have more people looking to me for answers and results. When I can't give that to them, it makes me look like someone who doesn' take their job seriously. And though this is NOT the case, it reflcects on me that way.
But the worst type of disappointment is when I disappointment my own family and friends. The people that I cherish and turn to when I'm in need of anything. The people I would be nowhere without. Yea, some are stronger than others but all are considered friends for life. Disappointing these people is tough because I know as a friend/family member, one should NEVER disappoint. Unfortunately, I failed at this and for that, I am/was truly sorry. But as I reflected, I thought of all the good that came out of this. I found out who my true friends were. I challenged myself as a friend for probably the first time of my life. I turned to people that I had never turned to before. I found a whole new support system and it was great. The initial disappointment was tough but there was a silver lining.
So what does all this babble mean? Not much actually, but it does bring up a point. I hate disappointment and I want to strive to never disappoint anyone in any fashion. If I begin to do that though, call me out on it please because it's always easier to strive toward something when you've got some help along the way from the people you care about.
To end this pointless post, I just wanna encourage everyone to watch the new season of Survivor. Yea, it's reality TV but so is that crap they call Laguna Beach! Anyways, this season should be good and I think a lot of people would benefit from watching this season. Thanks for reading this post and you know, I'll try to not only make them better but more useful to you as I go along. It's been a long time since I've really had time to just sit and write something truly reflective so if it seemed a little scatterbrained you should understand. For now though, it's time for me to depart. HAKUNA MATATA!

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS?!
Unfortunately, it is true. School is here once again. The times of not having to worry about writing a paper or reading 50 pages are gone. Summer just kinda flew by, without even telling me hello. Not even a simple wave. For me, summer 2006 will go down as one that I honestly just will not remember actually having. Yes, memorable things happened during this summer but after 18 years of the "typical" summer, this one was special because it never happened. Confused? I don't blame you. Let me explain.
My "typical" summer has always been one of laziness. One that drags on so long that I almost want school to start so I can see all my friends without spending 80 bucks in gas. It also consists of work that well, isn't really work. I mean, I get paid but as you should know, a lot of people get paid for things they shouldn't. And finally, it also involves seeing the same 5-10 people in mass amounts. And though I cherish every moment with these people, it gets old sometimes. And though I love the fact that I do not have homework to worry about, summer sometimes can be a drag.
Well, this summer was completely different. As I stated before, that's if I even really had one. This "summer" started off right where spring ended: working in Athens. Now, I did this half by choice and half because I NEEDED a change of scenery. Well, I worked three jobs, somehow balancing them all (I surprised myself) but yet met some new peeps and had a great time. I got hooked onto two shows (Entourage and Falcon Beach), go to know some new ppl (Lambos Bros., Seany Mac, Solo and others), came up with more drinking games than I thought were possible and got to catch up on some much needed thinking of my future. What's funny is that I look back at that time and refuse to believe that that was half of my summer. It felt like maybe, and I mean MAYBE, a week. But that's how this "summer" was.
Anyways, the second half of "summer" was completely amazing. Again, no time for my usual laziness because I had 14-hour days to look forward to. And honestly, the next four weeks were just a whirlwind. I look back at those weeks and all I can really say is WOW. I mean, it's hard to put into words what PC meant to me. Actually, it's impossible. I went into PC thinking of it as a job and then came out with being an experience. I hope at some point in your lives you get to experience something as great as PC. During those four weeks, I met so many great people that became not only my friends, but my support system when I went through some tough times. The four weeks went quick now that I look back on them. I mean, they really went by quickly but they were still amazing. If I could do it all over again (and I plan on it next year), I would do it in a heartbeat.
Well, back to business. The last two weks of the "summer" were just work. Lots and lots of work. Literally 9-5 and then add 7-12. It was tiring but it was a good kind of tired because I was getting stuff done. I was becoming an adult, learning how to budget my time, how to push myself and how to work hard while having fun at the same time. And now I look at the calendar and I see school starts tomorrow and I feel like this summer went too quick for it to be considered anything. But don't get me wrong. This was a great summer. Yea, I'm calling it a summer now. I accomplished so much over the past 12 weeks, I met some outright amazing people, and I experienced things (good, bad, and ugly) that I never thought I would. That's just how wonderful it was.
So now, it's back to the grind of homework, assignments, papers, quizzes, exams, projects, labs, etc... and the excitement known as learning. As much I love all of the previous, I am already missing my summer. I hope before the school year starts, you can take time to reflect back on your summer as I did. Not only will it make you smile but it will help you re-focus on what you have to do at school. If you're like me, your focus is simple. Getting good grades while having a good time. Work hard, play hard if you will. Just remember, do not waste these years away. You only get one true college experience. Drink it up. It always goes down smooth.

START OF SUMMER
So here it is. Summer 2006. Honestly, the past two years have flown by and now, it's the summer again. Not only that, but I am technically a senior. Not a bad feeling at all. But that's not important to this blog. Instead, it's time to write about the great start to the summer and how it is shaping up.
I guess I should start with my living situation. Because my lease doesnt start until mid-July, I've been living on Court St. with my bud from work. Let me tell ya somethin: It couldn't be better. Great location, great hospitality and absolutely great food. I mean, manicott and garlic bread? Luscious. Not only that, but through my roommates for a month, I have met some other great peeps, who will definitely be great drinkage partners for months to come. Also, I have been exposed to the next great television show: Falcon Beach. Granted, the show is terrible when it comes to acting and plot but what makes it so terrible is what makes it so good. If you don't know what I mean, just check it out on Mondays at 9 on ABC Family. Better yet, tune in an hour earlier and check out the newest show to the ABC Family lineup, Kyle XY. According to the preview, the guy has no belly button. I don't know about you, but I'm intrigued.
What else has gone on this summer? Well, my schedule is absolutely sporadic. I mean, I knew I had no concrete plan of the structure of the summer but just these past two weeks have been everywhere. This week won't be any better as I welcome high schoolers to the campus. I get paid well for my work so I don't wanna complain too much but for a guy who likes things structured and scheduled, this summer is making my gead spin...or maybe that's the beverages? Who knows?
How bout the Cleveland Indians? Could they blow any more leads? This year has been terrible for the Tribe. It's hard to find words for the season they have experienced. Maybe it's due to all the pressure from the media and fans. Maybe it's due to injuries. Or maybe it's due to their unwillingness to spend some money for some good players. Whatever the reason, this season is turning into a disappointing one. That's too bad too because this team has all the tools. But the pitching this year will not allow the bats to score enough runs. As a fan, the frustration has set in with this team because of all of the potential this team has. But I will try and stay optimicitc, but with every loss, my attachment to this year's team gets thinner and thinner.
So what else is new? Well, not much. All kinds of sports stuff on and even better stuff on TV. All kinds of first-year students here as well as those nearing graduation. Also a lot of townies combined with out-of-towners. All I know is that I think this will be a good summer. More updates soon on the summer heat in the ATH. For now, have fun at work, listen to your elders, and as always, HAKUNA MATATA!

THE SECOND YEAR IN REVIEW (Part 4 of 4)
Yes, the time has come. The final part of my 4-part series on how Year 2 has gone for yours truly. If you missed the previous 3 posts, use that bar to your right and scroll down. Not a hard task, so do it now before you read too far. Good? Sweet. Back to business.
After recapping the 3 quarters that made up the school year, it’s time to look ahead. You know, looking ahead can be a scary yet exciting thing. Scary for the fact that I feel like I am always unprepared for what is coming up next. Yet, it is exciting because I don’t know what is coming up next. I mean, I have things planned out but just like this year, it is impossible to know where life is gonna take you. I never came into college with the goal of becoming SD of officials for Intramurals, or being the sweetest Tour Guide OU has ever seen, or even being the host of our high school football show in my third year. I did come into college with the goal of having a girlfriend after two years, but hey, I’ve got the Blue Jackets mentality: Next year is my year.
So what’s to look forward to? Well, the near future looks bright. This summer, I’ll be staying in the ATH. Yea, most students will be gone but that’s not really a bad thing. I’ll be working three jobs, none overly time-consuming, and living with a good friend for a month before moving to the new casa in early July. By the end of summer, I’ll be doing PreCollege, introducing new freshman to their new home. And then, right when that ends, both Intramural training and the Show get going. Honestly, these three months are gonna fly by. But that’s what I want. A quick summer so I can get back to the great times with friends.
What else is there to look forward to? Well, how bout the new class of PA’s in Intramurals? This excites me a lot. I mean, we hired a great group of guys and gals that are sure to make training an experience of a lifetime. And of course, the Show has got me giddy too. Being the host is nice and all but being able to do the show with all my friends and interacting with them all is the real highlight. Whether it is Luke’s wisecracks or Christine’s corny sayings, I know I will be flashing that trademark Matt Barnes smile all the time, trying to hide a huge roar of laughter.
Now, for the CO peeps, I know what you are thinking. Matt is deserting us, staying in Athens. Well, don’t feel that way. I’m just doing what I gotta do. Life is taking me places and I gotta keep moving. This summer, it’s keeping me in Athens. Next summer, who knows? It’ll definitely be an internship but where? That’s the joy of my Hakuna Matata philosophy. No worries. It’ll work and it’ll be great. No matter what though, I know I can always go back to CBus and share some great times with my best buds. For now though, sorry guys. The weekends will probably see me back in the capital city but during the week, don’t cry too much. I’ve heard stories about that. You all gotta stop doing that.
Of course, sports will be on my mind over the summer. Will the Tribe get out of this funk and make a true run for the postseason? Will the Pacers and Blue Jackets draft correctly or pull a Tim Couch or Ryan Leaf? Will the Buckeyes start the year #1? (I hope not) Will Barry Bonds break his knee and have to retire forever? (I hope so). Will I continue to dominate fantasy leagues or fall behind? These are just a few of my thoughts. Of course, there are many more but the joy of sports is that at some point, they will be answered.
So what does the future hold for me? That’s the $25,000 question. But I don’t mind that at all. Instead, I embrace it. I sometimes like to compare life to Cedar Point rollercoasters. Sometimes, life is like the Mantis: Throwing loops and turns at you, forcing you take a stand. Sometimes, it’s like the Raptor: Allowing you to let your feet loose and enjoy the wild ride. Or it could be like Disaster Transport: Has the looks of something impressive but instead just ends up downright disappointing. Other times, it is like the Magnum: Reliable but still rocky enough to give you a headache. But also it is like Millennium Force: Take you to heights that challenge you but by the end, you’re satisfied (or even thrilled) with your performance. Or it is like Top Thrill Dragster: Succeeding quickly as if nothing could go wrong but then humbling you just as fast, only to see you right back to where you started.
What does all this mean? It means enjoy life kids. Don’t get so bogged down in work this summer that you can’t enjoy the good times. Yea, I’m workin three jobs but my jobs don’t even feel like jobs. They are more like social events that I get paid for, and that’s not a bad deal. So enjoy your summer, go wild, get mad cash, don’t forget my big 20th bday on July 26, and as my mom says, “Love live life.”
So back to where I started. A 4 part series on my second year. How many more years for me here at the “Harvard on the Hocking”? Well, definitely one more but after that, even I don’t know. It could be one more quarter or it could be all 3. But that’s too far ahead. That’s one for God to figure out. I mean, he knows a heck of a lot more than I do. That just means for all my friends, OU or not, if you want to hang with me before I hit the real world, your window of opportunity is closing. But don’t worry. Even I don’t think the real world can get the college guy out of me. Second year, I will miss you. Third year, see ya in about 3 months. For now my amigos, don’t catch Bird Flu, monitor your light bulbs, and as always, HAKUNA MATATA!

THE SECOND YEAR IN REVIEW (PART 3 of 4)
Yes, this is the third installment of my miniseries post. If you missed the previous two, scroll down so you get them in order. Don’t want you miss out on the great excitement from the other posts. Well, actually, I wouldn’t call it excitement. More like boring ramblings from a 19 yr old guy unwilling to go to sleep but instead, type for 20 minutes about nothing, like right now. Oh, so this post is about Spring quarter. So, let the miniseries continue…..
I guess I have to start with spring break. While most people were getting sun in Florida or beyond, Matt was getting his college basketball fix. Yea, I know you’re jealous. While you hung out with hotties on the beach, I watched over 100 hours of March Madness over 8 days….and it was FREE! (for me at least). Yes, my life is that sad that I would rather watch that many hours of March Madness instead of going to, let’s say, Myrtle Beach. Why? Because March Madness is the true essence of sports. It has all the drama, action and suspense you need. You get to see the true emotions of student-athletes, giving it their all, just to play one more game. It is captivating stuff, and this year was no exception. From my depression after Ohio State and Marquette losing to my uncontrolled excitement for George Mason, I loved every minute of my spring break. Plus, when I wasn’t watching basketball, I was hanging with friends from the CO, which is always a good time. Oh, or watching Parental Control on MTV. I don’t what it is about that show, but I’m hooked. Again, I live a sad life. Moving on…
Spring Quarter 2006: Oh how I will miss thee. Literally, this quarter has just been great. Don’t think I can point out one bad weekend or even one bad day. Every day of this quarter has had something great attached with it. It started kinda slow when I noticed I would have to write NINE ESSAYS during the quarter. Not my idea of easy, especially when the weather is nice outside. After a relaxing Easter with the family, it was back to business in the ATH and wow, things sure escalated quickly. The rest of the quarter saw Matt just having a great time. My limit of drinking two days a week started to look like an afterthought. My goal of getting things done before they were supposed to be done also seemed to look like a silly notion. Instead, I just decided to have a good time and enjoy the good times, good weather, and the good friends I have made in my 6 quarters here at OU. That was a good decision.
Some of the highlights of the quarter have just been flat out comical. One of the best is my mistaken identity for this guy named Dante here on campus. Who is Dante? I don’t frickin know but at least 3 weekends, some girl has called me by that name. One week, it’s at a party. The next, just walking out of my dorm. The next, just eating a late-night breakfast at USD. Let me tell ya, this Dante guy is a pimp down here because every girl that knows him wants to do him. So in turn, they wanna do me. Yea, that won’t work. All my friends who have witnessed these occasions think it is hilarious. I find it annoying but hey, maybe one day I will meet this Dante. And I will promptly punch him in the face for all the frustrating moments I have had due to his man-whoreness. That or get his ID and use it at the establishments here.
What else this quarter? Well, how about being stalked by a high school girl who went on one of my tours. Weird? You betcha, especially when she not only e-mails me twice a day but then calls my dorm room and leaves a message. Her reason for contacting me: she wants to know more about the school. That’s fine with me, but then she continues to say, “I wanna talk as friends”. Whoa, hold up. Who are you again? As friends? Yea, this girl was that weird. Of course, I call her back and set the record straight that 1. I don’t know you, 2. If you have a question about OU, ask. If not, don’t talk to me, 3. I don’t even talk to my own friends on the phone “just for fun” so why would I do that with a high school girl I gave a tour to in October? Let’s just say after that brief convo with her over the phone, she hasn’t talked to me since. Never thought being a tour guide would cause me to have a HS stalker but hey, I guess I just have that effect on people.
Then, there is Palmerfest weekend. It started on Friday when my friends dropped by and well, it was fun. RJ found a way to pass out (again) while Jon and Andrew saw more of OU than they probably wanted. All in all, good times. Then, the actual Palmerfest was just downright crazy. I mean, I guess knowing people that actually live on the street helps. Well, the night ended early for yours truly, since I did not know how to pace myself but next year, mark it down: I will go until at least 4am. If I don’t, feel free to write something on my forehead when I am passed out somewhere in Athens.
Thursday nights have been a lot of fun as well this quarter. They have seen some great moments. Whether it was at one of Athens’ establishments, the 6th floor of Bromley, or my own casa, it has been a good time. I don’t regret one second of those Thursday nights. Yea, they probably didn’t put me in the best shape for my tours the next morning OR keep money in the ol’ wallet but they were fun. Really really fun. Too bad my liver doesn’t agree.
Spring also saw many other things. The debut of Newswatch, the return of Jeff and Luke’s mojo, the promotion to SD of Officials, watching my roommates cringe to the movie RENT, the continuation of weekly Cold Stone quarts, the start of my love for Deal or No Deal, Beastfest 2006’s “wet t-shirt competition” and of course, the start of this blog. I mean, this spring has just been unbelievably wonderful. And there is still a week left! Oh buddy…
Well, that’s my quick recap of this quarter. I know I missed a ton of great moments but you know what, I’m not a walking tape recorder. Nor am I able to stay awake long enough to keep writing so I’m gonna finish this up. But before I go, don’t forget to check back for the final part of this 4-part series on my second year. The last edition will focus on the future. I’ll try to keep it on the near future but if I venture into 15-20 years from now, so be it. It’s my blog and I will do what I want. For now though friends, give some money to charity, go for a jog, and HAKUNA MATATA!
THE SECOND YEAR IN REVIEW (PART 2 of 4)
Welcome back. The blog has missed you. Well, in this 4-part blog miniseries, I am now on Winter break and Winter quarter. If you missed the previous blog, then scroll down and read. These miniseries aren’t as effective if you read them out of order. It’s like reading Harry Potter books and finding out he is gay at the end before reading the 1784 pages that precede it. Anyways, back to the blog since we all know Harry Potter sucks.
Well, winter break was uneventful again. I did exactly what I wanted to do: NOTHING. Why is this? Yes, part of it is that I didn’t want a job and didn’t really need the money (and this is well documented already). Secondly, I wanted to help out my old high school wrestling team. What can a guy who never got out of sectionals teach wrestlers? Not much, but I feel like I did something. Plus, got my lazy butt in shape (which didn’t last long). I did travel though. Went to Mississippi and Florida for Flag Football, Milwaukee to visit the sis, and Bowling Green with the wrestling team. These trips not only helped the time go faster, but were a lot of fun. Made my winter break bearable.
Winter quarter came and wow, I forgot how much I hate the winter. Just too damn cold everyday. I mean seriously, if it’s gonna be 20 degrees outside, it better be snowing…and snowing hard. None of this “flurry” crap. All or nothing. Make up your damn mind. Sorry, got way off track. Classes weren’t too bad. I mean, when two of your classes talk about baseball for an hour each, you can’t complain too much. Besides the dorm parties (since it was too damn cold outside to walk), there were some great moments. I want to highlight two.
The first is my trip to Michigan for a leadership conference with some peeps. Let’s just say by the end of this trip, leadership was not on anyone’s mind. Actually, pretty sure, no one acted like a true leader. After a long day of sessions and speeches, both nights we were there, we got sloppy drunk. While the first day saw me lose 90 bucks in my first casino experience (big mistake), the second day saw me at my best: taking a girl away from one of my best friends. Intentional? Of course not. Satisfying? Oh yea. I won’t go into too much details of what all went down with me and her (there aren’t many honestly) but it was good times. I mean, 3 couples hooked up, one guy was sleeping on an ironing board, and one guy fell asleep in the hotel hallway with a “Caution: Wet Floor” sign by his side. As you can see, not much leadership being discussed here. But that’s what great about it. Going somewhere for one reason and instead coming back with stories that will live forever.
So what is memory #2? Well, it has nothing to do with alcohol. Instead, it has all to do with wrestling. You know, I’ve been associated with high school wrestling now for 6 years and I’ve seen and gone through a lot. From my own dismal 4 years to seeing others triumph, I feel like I’ve seen it all, though I know I’m not even close. Well, this year’s State tourney was really hard on me. First of all, I had access to the floor all weekend because I was “covering” the tourney for the Athens TV station. In all reality, my friend Kevin and I were there to see our own guys. For Kev, his bro Brian and for me, my former teammate Tony. Now, seeing Tony in the state tourney was good enough for me. I remember when the kid first came in the room my junior year and hating him profusely. Literally, I wanted to choke him but I couldn’t. He was the coach’s son. After my senior year though, I had grown a level of respect for him so I made a promise to him. It was simple: “If you make states, I will be there for every match”. Well, I am a man of my word. So both his junior year and this past year, I was there (along with former teammate Erik) each match, rooting for him. Well, after a quick two and out junior year, Tony came back for a better finish senior year and it showed. After three wins, he was in the state championship. For anyone, this is all you can ask for. A shot to be the best in the state. But like Eminem says, “you only get one shot”.
So there I am with Erik. (Props to Erik for making every match as well). Kevin is already gone, having seen his bro finish an impressive 4th. Just watching Kevin alone was making me go crazy as I waited with this nervous yet excited feeling for Tony. I remember having the feeling 3 years ago for Tony’s big bro, who came up short, getting pinned the championship. I sat with Erik as we tried to erase that memory and instead focus on Tony, hoping he could become the school’s first state champ. However, it was not meant to be. He lost. After watching this kid, check that, young man, grow up in front of my own eyes, it hurt to see him come so close and yet, not finish it off. Nothing could be said to him to cheer him up. The only thing I could say to him 15 min after the match was a simple “I’m proud of you man.” Now, it’s been months since that match but just thinking about it now still wrenches at my heart because this is a guy that has worked hard his whole life and to be that close to a goal and fail, has got to hurt…and hurt hard. But he’ll bounce back. He plans on wrestling for a D2 school in Pennsylvania. And forget that puny dream of being a HS state champ. Naw, he has his sights set on a national championship. And trust me, if he gets there, I’ll be there, rooting him on until the final whistle.
Of course, there were other great moments in the quarter. Getting offered two jobs in 20 minutes, watching the Buckeyes beat the Irish, and the start of the weekly golf picks with Luke. All in all though, winter quarter was pretty slow. It didn’t have many highlights. Probably the biggest lowlight came on Valentine’s Day. I mean, I already hate the day (See my Mother’s Day argument in a previous post) and then what happens? I get two cards. One from my sister and one from my church. For the record, you know your love life is sad if you get two cards and they are from your sister and your church. Sad realization for me but hey, it is what it is.
Well, that is two quarters down and one more to go. What’s to come for the next post? I guess you’ll hafta wait and find out. I am sure it will please you though. Until the next post (tomorrow), hope I just made the last 5-10 minutes of your life a little better. I mean, reading the details of my sad, pathetic life can only make you feel better about yours, right? For now peeps, eat fresh, don’t get sunburned, and HAKUNA MATATA!

THE SECOND YEAR IN REVIEW (PART 1 OF 4)
Memorial Day weekend 2006. It’s here already. I mean, didn’t I just graduate from high school months ago? Well, as quick as you can Tim Biakabutuka, the first two years of college are almost done. I know everyone kept telling me that the four years of college would go quickly, but who listens to other people? I know I don’t. But those people were right. These weeks just fly by now. Granted, some days seem longer than others but overall, the weeks are short now. And now after 9 weeks of what has been a great spring quarter, I’m less than two weeks away from two full years in the bag. So, as a service to you, my faithful readers, and myself, I plan to recap my feelings, thoughts, events, etc… of the first two years of my college experience.
Before I really get going though, I said I would do a Reality recap and I am a man of my word so without further adieu, enjoy my recap of the best genre in television: Reality TV.
SURVIVOR: Exile Island: If you watched this past Survivor, you were in for a true treat. It’s been a long while since they’ve had a Survivor this good. First of all, it had a great cast. Hands down, one of the best. The start was choppy but as the season went, so did the action, drama, suspense and comedy. In a previous post, I picked Cirie to win it all. Well, she got fourth place but she did win a car during the finale, so I’m happy for her. In the end, a good guy won. Aras, a yoga instructor who fought every challenge but seemed to always come up a little short, won the million bucks and deserved it. He poured his heart and soul into the game and yet, did not really screw anyone (big time) over in the process. I hope all of you will catch onto the next Survivor because in this world we live in today, it is sometimes nice to just laugh at others and this show is the perfect venue for that.
AMAZING RACE 9: Yes, nine. And there better be more. This show is still my favorite on all of television. Just like Survivor, this show had a great cast. Ranging from lazy best friends to old, bickering sisters, the cast was well picked. The nerds were funny, the hippies were wacky, and every couple fought at least 5 times each episode. In the end, the hippies (BJ and Tyler) won it all but not before an excruciating final Road Block that had me on the edge of my seat, pretty much screaming. My pick of Ray and Yolanda got third so again, not too bad on my part. The great thing about this show is the editing. You can’t script this stuff, but you can edit it so good that it makes it look like you did. The tenth race is being taped right now and I cannot wait. If you get bored on Sundays at 8pm next fall, check this show out. I think I have almost converted my roommate to it but even if I haven’t, you should.
AMERICAN IDOL: Uh, I didn’t watch this but why the hell did a guy who looks 40 years old win? And secondly, none of these idols are ever gonna be good. Kelly Clarkson is only good cause she broke away from Idol’s label. That’s all I have to say about that because this show stinks now.
All other reality shows are not worth mentioning right now because of time considerations but just know this, reality shows are the way to go for good TV. If you don’t believe me, it’s your loss. Case closed.
So now to my recap of the year. Well, I came into this year with high hopes of having a great time socially, doing well in my first full year as an Intramural PA, and also doing well in my first reporting gig on Gridiron. Let’s just say I definitely exceeded my expectations. First off was Gridiron. Getting here two weeks before school even started, I was living with Braves and well, that was an adventure. Let me share some advice with you. When living with others (and they are doing you the favor), don’t buy food from the grocery store. Just eat out every night. Why? Ask me personally. I have a great story about that.
Anyways, the first few weeks of Gridiron went fine thankfully and the IM staff training was a blast. Before school even started, I was already having a great time. And then Fall quarter came. The classes got goin, the students came to campus, and OU was given the #2 party school ranking, which of course, was an insult. How dare the Princeton Review question our abilities! The classes in the fall were just terrible. Yes, I got a great GPA but the classes were so damn boring. It was like watching a Kansas City Royals baseball game or a non-US World Cup match. But I survived by doodling an awful lot and in some cases, just falling asleep. This strategy has moved on to this quarter in some of my classes because teachers do not understand the concept of shut up and let the students talk. The quarter ended on a good note though as I went to Arizona to ref flag football. It was a great trip too. The weather was nice and the ladies in Phoenix were lookin really really good. I almost transferred there on the spot. I was (and still am) very jealous.
There were many highlights to the Fall Quarter. From announcing the IM flag football championships with Alex to Luke’s 3-girl winning streak, fall quarter was going down as the best quarter ever, a title it wouldn’t hold long. But it had great moments. Of course, being the short-term memory guy I am, I forget most of them but I know they were there. I remember the nights screaming at the Indians as they choked down the stretch. I remember the OSU-Texas debacle of a game and then promptly drinking the loss away. I remember the many late night meals at Union Street Diner with the Gridiron gang. All of these made for a memorable quarter.
But enough with fall, the Winter and Spring were also great times. So I shall move on. The next post will highlight the next two quarters and more. For now, I leave without a closing quote because just like any good TV movie, I am leaving you in suspense. I want you to come back and read about my ever-changing life. So I guess this is goodbye then. I will post tomorrow so until that times comes, go Tribe, eat Cheez-Its, and Hakuna Matata!

SEEING IS BELIEVING
Hey there, welcome back to my blog. You know, ever since I have have started this blog, I have seen blogs popping out of nowhere. Now, I'll admit, I did get the idea from somewhere else so hey, who knows...maybe blogs are like the next Amway. Anyways, reason for this title? Well, I have seen a few things this past week and weekend that I could not believe but that's here nor there. Unfortunately, you will not be hearing about them. I don't like to call out names in my blogs. Just seems wrong.
So I am in a bit of a dilemma. Your feedback is appreciated. I love college. Unlike my friend Jeff, I could probably stay in college for 5-10 years and be happy. Yes, maybe it's the fact that I get paid to go. Or maybe the fact that I go to one of the best party schools in the nation. But honestly, I think what I love is the freedom, the independence, the lack of responsibility (at some times). I mean, where else can you go get an education, find the love of your life, drink your liver away, make a whole bunch of friends and get paid for it? For me, this is reality and I tell ya, I could live with for awhile. Unfortunately, I was a damn overachiever in high school and came in with a lot of credits. I look back at that now and regret it because at the pace I'm at, I'll be a senior, yes SENIOR, at the end of this upcoming quarter.
Now most of you are probably reading this saying "Shut up Matt, you get paid to go to school". I know that. Pretty sure I hear at least once a day. But in all honesty, I wanna stay the full 4 years, but I wanna do it without doing the whole 2-3 extra quarters worth of classes. So what to do? I don't even know and that comes from a guy who has already planned my retirement vacation in 50 years. I guess I should let things happen, cause as they say, "it is what it is" but sheesh, I wish life was easier.
Well, I promised to finish recapping some pilots and I hate disappointing a crowd. Actually, take that, rewind it back. I don't mind disappointing a crowd. After being a ref for now 2 years, I have learned disappointing others comes with the job. And I relish their hate for me. I thrive on it. Anyways, to the pilots. CBS and FOX better bring it:
JERICHO (CBS): Things are quiet and peaceful in small-town Jericho, Kansas, but when a baffling explosion occurs in the distance, Jericho's residents are plunged into social, psychological and physical chaos. No one knows what to think, and fear of the unknown takes over the town, especially because its isolation cuts it off from outside help. When nearly everything they know seems gone, will the residents of JERICHO band together to face their unfamiliar and mysterious new world?
MY TAKE: Huh? Does anyone understand this description? Yea, neither do I. Hard to comment on such jibberish but if I had to say something, I guess would say that CBS is damn glad they have ten CSI's to make up for this load of crap. This won't get past week 4, and if it does, I will boycott the network (well, except for Survivor and The Amazing Race)
VANISHED (FOX): Sara Collins is gone. But before the FBI can solve the mystery of where she is, they first need to figure out who she really is. Agent Graham Kelton, working with Agent Lin Mei, uncovers enigmatic clues that suggest SaraÂs disappearance may be part of a large, sinister conspiracy. The search for Sara not only exposes one of the nationÂs most prominent families, but it also uncovers evidence that could rock the very foundation of American society. In VANISHED, nothing is as it seems. Everyone is a suspect. Everyone has a secret. And no one is safe.
MY TAKE: Not gonna lie, got some chills when I read this. Doesn't sound too bad. The only thing that scares me is that this show is on FOX and this is the same network that has gotten rid of great shows (Arrested Development, Bernie Mac), had to reincarnate others (Family Guy), and let others run WAY too long (That 70's Show, The OC). But maybe, they have a Prison Break-like hit here so I may have to watch a couple of these episodes. Not a can't miss in my book but surely not a dud.
SHARK (CBS): James Woods plays the charismatic, supremely self-confident attorney Sebastian Stark, who brings his cutthroat style to the Los Angeles DA's high-profile crime unit after years spent cutting a wide swath as a defense attorney. Leading a team of new young lawyers, this shark now preys on the notorious among the city's rich and powerful. Oscar nominee Spike Lee directs the pilot.
MY TAKE: Because of my love for Spike Lee joints, I may watch the pilot but after that, I don't know about this. James Woods isn't THAT great and the storyline seems like Ally McBeal but with a guy. That may be a bad comparison but I don't care. That's why it's my take and not yours.
'TIL DEATH (FOX): TIL DEATH is a comedy about middle-aged Eddie and Joy Stamm, who are on day 8,743 of their marriage and have the battle scars to prove it. Their new next-door neighbors are young newlyweds Steph and Jeff Woodcock, an idealistic, passionate, adorable and married for all of 12 days. It's a show about new marriage versus old marriage, about keeping the romance alive or at least staying together so you have someone to drive you to the hospital for your operations.
MY TAKE: Two things for you to think about. First of all, Eddie Stamm is played by Brad Garrett, his first Post-Raymond show. Wishing him all the best even though he deserved his on spin-off. Second of all, Jeff Woodcock? Woodcock? Wow, how many times will they make fun of that last name. That name sounds like one of Brian Fantana's testicles, not a frickin character in a sitcom. All in all, it's a comedy on FOX at the same time as Survivor. I'm not watchin.
THE CLASS (CBS): The Class explores the lives of a group of twenty-somethings from the same third-grade class brought back together for a surprise reunion after 20 years. The classmates get a glimpse of the different paths their lives have taken and have the opportunity to see themselves all grown up--whether they want to be or not. As he did with "Cheers" and "Friends," comedy veteran James Burrows directs a collection of funny stars-in-the-making for a new comedy about life's what-ifs.
MY TAKE: Well, this show better be good because it is delaying the start of "The King of Queens" until January. Odds are, it will suck and here's why. Do you remember your third grade class? Even if you do (cuz I don't), would you really wanna spend a half hour with them every Monday at 8:30 discussing "what-ifs"? Yea, didn't think so. This show will probably get very old, very quickly.
Alright, that's enough for now for pilots. My reality TV wrap-up will be in the next blog just to give you something to look forward to.
Time to move on. As I have mentioned before, one sports-related topic is necessary for each post. For this one, I want to chronicle the happenings of the NBA playoffs. Starting in the East, the Nets choked against the Heat. 'Nuff said. The other series though was a classic, and it shouldn't have been. The way the Pistons played in Game 7 is how they should have played all series. They are just simply better. Regardless of how many points Lebron was gonna score, the Pistons would not allow the Cavs to win Game 7 on their court. Props to Lebron and crew for their run but you know what, they ended the season the same way the Pacers did: LOSERS. Yea, eat that Cavs fans. As for the West, instead of looking back at the great series, let's look forward to the series that is forthcoming. Suns-Mavs has the makings of a classic in my mind. Great guard play with Nash and Terry. Great forward play with Marion and Dirk. Both teams have a great run and gun offense, though the Mavs are a bit more controlled. However, I give the edge to the Suns because of one man: Nash. The guy is pure grit and he and his team will just want it more. In the East, I'll take Miami. Both series will go 7. Get the sunscreen because this NBA Finals is gonna be HOT! (pun intended)
Well amigos, that's enough for today. I have important things to do. What things? I don't know but there's gotta be somethin more important than rambling on the internet. For my closing quote, I got lazy and just went thru people's AIM profiles and found a good quote. So whose profile did I choose? Well, that person will just hafta read and find out if it was them:
Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And a good thing never dies. -Shawshank Redemption-
That quote is deep. TRUFF. Aight, that's all for this one. With the long weekend, I will probably post one each day from Friday to Monday. I hope to tie a theme into them all or even write a short story or somethin. Who knows? For now though, enjoy the sunshine, don't listen to country music, and as always, HAKUNA MATATA.

THE PAIN OF LEARNING
So why I am putting ANOTHER post up so soon? Well simply, time is on my side. Or I am just incredibly bored and I have nothing huge due until next Wednesday so why wait? Might as well entertain the 4 people that actually read this mess. Real quick, spologies for any spelling erros in this post. I didn't revise it and really don't care how it looks. I titled this post "The Pain of Learning because honestly today in class, I felt my brain grow. I know this doesn't make any sense but I was simply sharing my opinion on a story (very rare) and as the teacher elaborated on my tidbit, my head hurt. Either the Dr. Pepper at 9:30am was gettin to me or my brain decided to grow a bit as I expanded my knowledge of who knows what.
Aight, now to some serious stuff, like what happened to good television? If you haven't noticed, the big networks are announcing their Fall schedules right as I type. As I skim through the mutiny of pilots that will fizzle in 4 weeks, I began to think about all the great shows that have come and gone. That list includes shows such as:
The Cosby Show: The prototype for all TV sitcoms. With its big star (Bill Cosby), great supporting cast (Phylicia Rashad and kids), and great stories, this show had it all. Each show had a message to it, but without the Full House cheesiness. It's the kind of show you can watch now and still laugh to. Top notch stuff.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Just like the Cosby Show almost, except the star was one of the children. Will Smith's ability to make you laugh was key in this series. But also, in the serious episodes (when he gets shot), he excelled as well. The parents were perfect (Old Vivian was better) and Carlton was the perfect compliment to Will's carefree attitude and endless antics. Another show that can be watched over and over.
Nickelodeon Shows (back in the day): OK, I know these weren't on network TV but what HAS happened to these? Honestly, shows like Rugrats, Doug, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, All That, Roundhouse, etc... I could go on and on with the great shows. Now, I look at the shows and I no longer wonder why today's kids are so damn weird. I mean, shows like Bob The Builder and Romeo! would screw me up too. I'll take a good episode of Kenan and Kel (Who loves Orange soda?) over any of the shows today.
Everybody Loves Raymond: Back to network shows, this show always had me laughing. Between Ray Romano's inability to understand females (like me) and his parents who wouldn't stay out of his face (not like mine), this show gave us 9 years of good times. Add a kooky brother and kids with blond hair though Ray and Debra were both brunette, and you have a sitcom that is truly missed.
Ed: This show got screwed. Simple as that. NBC must have Cleveland Browns execs running this network because cutting this show was a dumb decision. Yea, the ratings weren't eye-popping but neither are George Lopez' and somehow that damn show is still on the air on ABC. But anyways, this show set in a small Ohio town had a great concept and a great lead actor in Tom Cavanaugh. A bowling alley lawyer who looks out for his town, an off and on relationship with old flame Carol, and a friend who he makes great bets with (such as who will bark at the waitress when she comes to get their order). Trust me, this show was funnier than I making it sound.
So anyways, those are just some of the classic great shows that are no longer with us on network TV (Thank you Nick at Nite). As I said, the networks are rolling out their new lineups and well, here's what I think about them. (NOTE: At the time of this posting, only NBC and ABC had released their schedule. I will get to FOX and CBS later)
MEN IN TREES (ABC): A relationship coach (Anne Heche) goes to Alaska for a speaking engagement. While there, her fiance cheats on her, marriage plans cancelled. So she stays in Alaska where, unfortunately for her, are a multitude of available men. The show centers around how she adapts to her new surroundings and how you can find love in the strangest places
MY TAKE: Frickin' dumb. First of all, Anne Heche used to be a lesbian (dated Ellen Degeneres) so it's hard for me to believe her being with guys. Also, it's frickin Alaska. Even America knows only 20 people live in Alaska. This show has all the makings of a 4 week run before getting a blizzard of bad ratings.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (NBC): In Dillon, Texas, high school football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. This year, the Dillon Panthers are expected to go all the way. That’s a lot of pressure for Eric Taylor in his first year as head coach. Not to mention, the pressure on the athletes who all have their sights set on college and the NFL. Coach Taylor is ready to mold these boys into champions and encourage them to be better men. Will they rise to the challenge?
MY TAKE: Okay, I'll admit, I'm intrigued by this show. I mean, you don't see many sports shows on network TV. I can'e even remember the last one. What scares me is that this show may turn into a high school version of ESPN's PLAYMAKERS and we all know how "great" that show was. Actually, that showed sucked. But as for this show, how can you stretch a whole football season into 24-28 episodes? I don't know but I will say this. If I like this sho and it gets cancelled halfway thru, I will not be a happy camper.
BIG DAY (ABC): Everything matters at a wedding, and the tiniest of imperfections can reverberate throughout the event as if lives actually hang in the balance. Things are about to get very complicated for Danny and Alice as their day turns into a season-long roller coaster with thrilling drops, loops and corkscrews when nothing goes as planned.
MY TAKE: Yea, I hate weddings already. An hour of sitting there and all that really matters is 3 minutes when they say two words: I do. So why would I want to watch a whole season focused on a wedding for fake people? What I'm saying is that this concept sucks. The reason 24 can pull off this one day thing is cuz the show is full of action and Kiefer Sutherland is the next Chuck Norris. Nice try ABC, but this ain't gonna work.
STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP (NBC): Aaron Sorkin takes us behind the scenes of a fictional late-night sketch comedy series. Lately, “funny” has been in short supply at Studio 60. The executive producer just had a meltdown – on live TV. The control room is out of control. The actors are acting up. And that’s just last Friday’s show! Studio 60’s only hope lies with two wunderkind writers (Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford) with troubles of their own, and the headstrong new network president (Amanda Peet) determined to turn things around.
MY TAKE: If this is Matt Perry's idea of a comeback, keep trying. Wow, this looks like a terrible idea. First of all, D.L. Hughley is in the cast so it's already doomed. Second of all, that title is too damn long. As for the show, doesn't NBC already have SNL? Do we really need a show about fake behind the scenes stuff that goes on? How bout we just follow SNL crews then? Good cast ensemble but dumb idea. And they put on Thursday...remember Must See TV? Yea, NBC has definitely lost their touch.
BROTHERS AND SISTERS (ABC): The adult children of Henry Walker, along with their respective families, have gathered to celebrate a birthday. What they don't know is that tonight the patriarch will die. With this safety net gone, everyone will be forced to face the reality of their lives. Set in Los Angeles, this multi-generational family works to balance their personal lives with the family business, their siblings, and a grieving mother.
MY TAKE: For all you Grey's Anatomy fans, better set your VCR's for Thursday at 9pm because this show is taking over its Sunday 10pm slot. Honestly, reading this recap bored me. I mean, this sounds like an adult Brady Bunch just without the Dad. Let's just say this...Thank God for Sunday Night Football on NBC because this show will probably put you to sleep before the first commercial break.
HEROES (NBC): They thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible powers. In Japan, a lowly office worker can teleport at will. In New York, a struggling artist can paint the future. In Los Angeles, a discontented beat cop can hear the thoughts of others. Elsewhere, a high school cheerleader discovers she is unbreakable and a single mom realizes she has a powerful alter ego. Heroes chronicles the lives of these people and the lives of others like them – whose destiny just might be saving humankind.
MY TAKE: If you didn't laugh when you read that summary, then you have no sense of humor. This show sounds like a joke. Come on, an unbreakable cheerleader? WOW. What are they thinking? I'll tell you what, the only hero in this show will be the NBC exec that takes it off the air. Oh, and in case you were wondering, this show is an hour-long DRAMA. Not a sitcom. Yea, it will be that bad.
There are plenty more bad pilots where that came from but if I do them all, then this post might take you 10 days to read so I will spare you this time. But you can agree with me here right? Television is losing its touch. Because of this, the amount of reality and game shows have increased (not a bad thing for me)because the creative minds of TV world just aren't clicking right now. Hopefully, one of these series will click but in my opinion, none of these 6 have a chance.
Real quick, I must throw something sports wise in this post. Sports is my life so it is mandatory. For this one, I just want to mention that the WNBA is starting its regular season this weekend. Now do I care? Not a bit. Actually, didn't know it was starting until ESPN put a commercial on the tube. And even then, I was hoping Phoenix vs. Sacramento was a replay of a great Suns-Kings game. The scary part in this is that this year number 10 for the WNBA, or as I call it, the new ABL. What's the ABL you ask? The first women's pro league, with the two-time champion Columbus Quest. Yes, Columbus, Ohio had a championship pro team and they were damn good. I went to every home playoff game except one. This team deserved better than to see its league go bankrupt due to the WNBA but you know what, CBUS survived and moved on. But in the back of my mind, I"ll always remember the Quest and those great teams. we kicked ass and deserved to be make Sportscenter in the first half hour. (ABL championship came on the show 45 min in.)
Aight, closing time (good song by......? lil help here). Need a quote. I just happened to stumble on this one (thanks Hirz). It's from everyone's favorite Detroit Piston Rasheed Wallace regarding the Cavs win over Detroit in Game 4
"Even the sun shines on a dog's ass"
What an intelligent statement. I think we are all smarter because of it. Hope your brain doesn't hurt. Aight, I'm gonna go now but look for the next post very soon. Again, this week is really light on homework so I will post away. Have a good Wednesday, watch the Amazing Race Finale (8pm CBS), and Hakuna Matata!

I MISS FOOTBALL (AND THE BLUE JACKETS)
Yo, welcome to the next post. Sorry for the delay. Surprisingly, I've been busy. Between saving little kids' lives and doing 20 hours of community service every weekend, I forget to sit down and write my thoughts down on this blog. But, have no fear. I found some time to let you know how my life is goin. So here goes....
This past weekend may have been my best at OU. And that's really sayin somethin because there have been some GREAT weekends. This past weekend, not only did my best buds from CBus come down on Friday but I had a great follow-up to that night with a crazy Palmerfest. I'll spare you the details (cuz I don't really remember them) but trust me, mad fun. If you haven't visited OU on a weekend, what's wrong with you? Ever seen the movie Old School and the party Vince Vaughn throws? Well, that's OU on a Tuesday. What I'm sayin is if you haven't been, get yo azz down here and have a good time. If not, your life will not be complete.
I hope everyone's Mother's Day went well. That's all I have to say about that....ya losers.
Well actually, let me throw one thought out there at least. Why do we have "Mother's Day"? Shouldn't we celebrate our mothers everyday? Why do I need floral companies and Hallmark tellin me when I HAVE to do something nice for my mom? UGH, and the sad thing is that most of America follows along. So what's that mean for Matt? You look like an ungrateful son if you send nothing. You know what, I am a great son and my mom knows that. She doesn't need a card to know that I love her. Now don't get me wrong, I gave my mom a card and even my grandmother but really though, days like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Father's Day should all just dissolve. Every day should be their day because they deserve it. Just think about that before you start searching for that Dad's day card. Instead, just call him and say, "Thanks Pops". That's better than any dumb card you buy at CVS (which by the way, cost a arm and a leg).
Now to more serious stuff, like the Indians collapsing before our very eyes. WTF? The Tigers and Royals? 6 losses in a frickin row....unacceptable. I mean, honestly, the kid from Bad New Bears can beat the Royals, and they have a kid in a wheelchair. I don't know what's goin on with the Tribe though. The team is built to win. Solid pitching, young hitting, and a great, well, make that decent, actually, pathetic bullpen. Oh, looks like I just answered my own question. Yes, our bullpen sucks. Plain and simple. And I blame the Reds for this. The frickin Danny Graves curse. Ever since we got the Vietmanese wonder (who needs a frickin haircut), we've gone down the tank. What about the Reds? Oh, how bout they once had the 2nd best record in the league. There is a simple solution to this problem Indians: Drop Danny. Once Graves is gone, we'll prolly run off 15 in a row. If that doesn't work, have manager Eric Wedge grow a moustache. At least that way, I can laugh at how dumb he looks while we give up 5 runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Speaking of giving up runs, our softball team gave up 16 in our final game. Somehow, we tied but wow, we should have lost. If I counted right, I think we had 254 errors. Most teams can't win with that many errors but like the true heroes in Cool Runnings, we finished strong to the end. So now what I do look forward to? That's a good question....well maybe
THE AMAZING RACE FINALE WEDNESDAY NIGHT!
If you can't tell, I'm a little excited about this. But that's another story for another day.
So how bout this weather we're having? Frickin joke. J-O-K-E joke. It's the middle of May and I wake up for class and can see my breath outside. Not only that, but I don't think the sun has come out in over 2 weeks. How the hell am I supposed to get my suntan? Plus, I give campus tours and trust me, when it's nice outside, this campus kicks every other campus' ass. But with this dreary weather, even I don't wanna go here. I wanna go to sleep (or Brazil). Not only that, but with the constant rain, my work schedule keeps gettin screwed up. Am I complaining? Of course I am. I'm good at it. If there were a job where all I could do was complain, I'd work there. But anyways, let's get the sun back out cause at this rate, no one is gonna wanna come to OU, and that's a tragedy.
Well, I'm gonna end this post a little early because I wanna save some material for the end of the week. Yes, I will update this either tomorrow or Thursday. Lot of great stuff on my mind and as a reader, I know you want more posts so I will satisfy your hunger. But for now, time for a closing quote. I had trouble thinking of a quote for this post. Normally, something dumb is said during the week or something prompts me to get a quote from someone. This week, I will leave you with this simple 6-word quote from some Disney golf movie that I refuse to see.
"Read it, Roll it, Hole it"
To see that quote more times, take some time out of your day and read my friend Luke's blog. Here's the link: http://argumentking.blogspot.com. He's got a list of his top 40 sports figures going on. Yea, it's a long read, but a damn good one as well so get goin on that while you wait for my next post. For now though, I have important things to do like go eat lunch and ....well, eating lunch is important enough. So until the next post, stay warm, go Tribe, and Hakuna Matata!

WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT
Hello friends (yea, I used Jim Nantz's dumb greeting). Welcome to post number 5 of hopefully many more. The title for this one is named after the song I have grown to love in the last week. In Athens, when the one radio station likes a rap song, it tends to play it over and over again. Well, last week, I heard it about 5 times so it stuck in my head, hence why the post is titled what it is. Sorry if you've been waiting for an update but with the culmination of a lot of schoolwork (overrated) and the wonderful weekend (never overrated), I have not had time to write my thoughts on this electronic piece of paper. So now that I have the time, I will begin....
What did Matt do on this Monday night? Well, due to lack of excitement, drive, inspiration and athletic talent, I missed my PC2K6 softball game to instead watch David Blaine float in water for 2 hours. Well, I say float because that's about all I saw. I mean, the promo all week said "David Blaine wil hold his breath for a world-record 9 minutes or DIE TRYING". Now that's good TV. A guy dying right in front of your eyes and for what reason? Oh, just to break a world record. Frickin joke. Well anyways, what happens? He doesn't get the world record ("only" stayed there for 7 min 8 sec) and he didn't even die. Disappointing on both accounts and a waste of what could have time spent watching the Indians lose to the Royals. Oh well...
Oh, and quickly, to finish my David Blaine thought, why the fudge was Stuart Scott the host of that special? There used to be a day where he just did sports. Now he's doin game shows and Will It Float: David Blaine Edition for ABC. What's next, host of American Idol? Actually, that's not a bad idea, but I digress.
In case you are interested, an OU grad will be on the hit NBC show (their only "hit") Deal or No Deal this Wednesday night at 8pm EDT on the NBC station in your area. Should you watch? Of course! Will you? Probably not, cuz all my friends love to let me down when it comes to watching shows I tell them too. But this one is big....great publicity for the school, see our great band, and get to look at 26 lovely ladies open cases. Yea, now that's good TV. Take that Donald Trump.
Speaking of good TV, how bout the Amazing Race and Survivor this season? Good stuff. I know only 2% of the nation is watching these shows but for you 98%, you're missin out on compelling TV. While you are watchin people on The OC cry, make-up, have sex, then cry cuz they had sex, but then have make-up sex or Grey's Anatomy as doctors focus more on their own love lives instead of the patient's lives (good hospital huh?), all of you could be watching probably two of the best shows on TV. The Amazing Race wins the battle of the two simply because of its nonstop action, great scenery, and well, the host is just better. It's final four time in both shows so if you wanna jump in now, you're gettin the best of the best. 8pm Weds and 8pm Thurs, CBS holdin it down with both shows. You want my picks? Of course you do, since EVERYONE loves to tell me when I am wrong (which isn't often). For the Amazing Race, I'm taking Ray and Yolanda. For Survivor, I'm taking Cirie. Of course, all three of those people are black. Am I lookin out for my people? Obviously....but can they win? Ay, with these shows, ANYONE can. You should be watching.
Well, since my Pacers are gone and the Cavs have lost their first of 4, I'll make some more NBA Playoff picks. Pistons in 5, Heat in 7, Spurs in 7, and Suns in 6. After that, who knows and who cares. My Pacers are gone. And speaking of gone, so are my men's softball team's, Cool Runnings, playoff chances. Sunday night, the bobsled finally broke but you know, next week, we will pick it back up and carry it across the finish line as the Russians and all of the nation cheer wildly (If you know the movie, this makes sense).
Oh yeah, did anyone see Kobe Bryant and the Lakers lose though they had a 3-1 series lead? How good did that feel? It was like watching the Yankees losing in 7, Michigan losing their 4th in 5 tries, or Duke AND UConn not making the Final Four. In case you can't tell, I hate Kobe Bryant. Literally, despise him. Is he a great player? Yes, but is he a good person? Uh, no. (If you said yes to that question, get your head examined) The guy is a cocky SOB, right up there with Terrell Owens and every Michigan fan. First, he rapes a girl. Then, he rips a guy twice his size. And then when his team needs him most in Game 7, he shoots the ball 3 times in the second half and scores only one point on a technical free throw. Oh, and then how bout this one:
Reporter: So Kobe, who do you think should be the MVP?
Kobe "SOB" Bryant: Me
Reporter: What if you couldn't be you, who would you pick?
SOB: No one
On a scale of 1-10 on the "I'm a cocky mutha flucka" scale, that's an "impressive" 12. I'm hoping Reggie Bush doesn't get that bad ever. I mean, he is trying with his specal request for #5 in the NFL. Hey guess what Reg, you have played ZERO downs in the NFL. You get no special treatment just cuz everyone else thinks you the god-child. How bout you respect the game and the rules they have and suck it up and play with whatever number they give you. If you're that good, they'll retire your number throughout the league and you can bitch all you want then. (If you can't tell, I don't like cocky millionaire athletes). Until that moment, which will never come, just go on the field and play like everyone else.
Well, I can see that you are getting bored (or annoyed) with me so I'll end this post with another closing quote. Last week's Ken Jennings quote got no comments surprisingly so maybe this one will. It comes from Douchy McDumbAss himself, President George W. Bush. Said just yesterday in Germany, Bush said the following when asked about his best moment in office so far:
"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound largemouth bass in my lake."
For once, I agree with our president. Write it down. May 8th, 11:43pm: Matt Barnes agrees with the guy with the same IQ as my right big toe. Well, that's all I got for this post. I'm not really sure if I even accomplished anything with this post but I hope I made your day/night go that much faster or given you a much-needed study break. I mean, just while I've been typing this post, my roommate got a book, sat on the futon with the great idea of reading for class, and in less than 5 minutes, was dead asleep. I guess my typing is just as good as a lullaby. For now peeps, Go Tribe, go buy your Mother's Day cards, and as always, Hakuna Matata!

FEEL THE RHYTHM, FEEL THE RHYME
I begin this blog still smiling from what was probably one of my top 5 moments ever on a sports team. Why was it so special? Oh, you'll see...just wait
It all starts early Sunday, and our manager is fearing the worst. Our best players not being able to play because of, get this, THE CAVS GAME (oh, my prediction still looks good by the way). Well, after calls to every male on this campus, including Rod McDavis himself, we had a sick feeling that we would only have 7 for the game. And this time, seven isn't lucky. Seven means forfeit.
We stand at Field #2, losing hope, and then the phone rings. We got a guy comin...not in the best shape, but hey, he's comin. Just so ya know, we HAVE to win this game. I mean, a loss puts the playoffs into a distant memory. A forfeit would just sour that taste. So in the nick of time, we get our eighth player and begin play.
After a quick top of the 1st that saw us give up only one run, the bats of Cool Runnings got goin. Hit here, double there, next thing you know, 5 run inning before we hit our mandatory 2-out penalty for only having 8 in the lineup. For the next 4 innings, shutout ball on both sides, but think about this. We have no second baseman and our outfield has gaps as big as Michael Strahan's teeth. So giving up 0 runs over their next 5 innings at bat is pretty darn impressive if I may say so.
Anyways, we tack on 4 HUGE insurance runs in the Bottom of 6 before finally giving up a fluke 2 runs in the top of 7 and winning the game 9 to 3. Honestly, this upset was as big as the Edmonton Oilers beating the Red Wings in the first round of this year's NHL Playoffs. Oh, not a hockey fan? (Most aren't) Well, put it right up there next to the USA beating the USSR or George Mason in the Final Four. You can't script this stuff. It's just that good, and I still can't stop thinkin about it.
Because of my inability to calm down from the great win, I stayed up till 4am reading books. Now, I hate books. I mean, literally despise them but for some reason, I enjoyed reading this time. I figured I was just too giddy to figure out I was doing something so incredibly boring. I'll try reading tonight. Got a feeling it ain't gonna fly though.
To end my Monday babble, I want to discuss the NFL draft. First of all, damn, it took forever. Second of all, damn, it took FOREVER. Third of all, I thought Houston made the right pick. Yea, start throwing the comments at me now but hear me out. Domanick Davis is a solid runningback, probably pro-bowl quality if it weren't for the pathetic offensive line the Texans have. They surely didn't need a QB. David Carr hasn't been great, but if you only had 1.3 seconds to throw the ball, I think you'd have problems completing 50% of your passes. Considering all that, Mario Williams is the right pick for the Texans. Was Reggie Bush the best player in the draft? Probably, if not the best, at least most talented. BUT, was Reggie Bush the best fit for the Texans? I think not. This guy has not played one snap in the NFL and people are already calling him the next Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Gale Sayers, etc...How bout we just watch them play and then critique the picks three years from now. Until then, mad props to the OSU Buckeyes, 5 in the first round. Represent the Scarlet and Gray to the fullest in the League.
Closing quote time...what shall it be? Well, in honor of the great win by our softball team, I think it is only fitting that we use a quote from a guy who is used to winning. Who is that man? None other than Jeopardy's Ken Jennings.
"It's so much fun now that the money is just icing on the cake. There just seems to be a lot of icing."
What that has to do with anything, I don't know but let it roll around in your brain and maybe something will click. Until next time everyone, enjoy the warm weather, make a new friend, and Hakuna Matata!

GOD BLESS DR. PEPPER
If you have just survived midterms/finals, pat yourself on the back. You have just gone through long nights and days, study sessions that were as exciting as a Columbus Crew game and tests that were as ridiculously hard as Bob Wickman getting the side out in order. For myself, the hero of this week was Dr. Pepper. Yes, that sugar-filled, caffeinated pop got me through the week. Honestly, I don't like drinking pop, but this week it was necessary. So, if I pass these midterms with flying colors, I will thank Dr. Pepper. And you know the best part about Dr. Pepper, you don't have to wait in the doctor's office for an hour. You just need $1.25. That's pimp.
Anyways, for some people who are reading this, school is either done or just about to end in a couple weeks. To all of you, I am not jealous. Yes, I still have homework, essays, tests and lectures but you know what else I have: spring weekends in Athens, Ohio. Do they get any better? I don't think so. If you haven't been to Athens in the spring on a weekend, you're missin out. And honestly, great, you're home and what do you do? Even though I still have 5 more weeks of academics, there is not a jealous bone in my body for those of you starting your summer break. Enjoy yourself...but I really don't care.
Just some random funny stuff happened to me this week. I mean, funny stuff happens to me every week, hell, everyday, but this week saw some unusually strange things. I guess it started when a girl said I looked like Wayne Brady. Is that a compliment or an insult? That's up for debate. Anyways, the girl tells me I look familiar (clear attempt of flirtation). The sad part is well, I should look familiar since 4 hours before that encounter, I was sitting right behind her in class for 2 hours! So what do I do? Pretty much ignore her while she talks (I was still trying to figure out if the Wayne Brady thing was supposed to make me feel good) and promptly head up the stairs instead of taking the elevator that she gets into. Point of this story: I'm never gonna get a girlfriend if I stay this cruel, but come on, Wayne Brady?!
This week in PreCollege class, we went over things to say in a parents session. You know, sit in front of 40 pairs of eyes and talk about why your son/daughter is safe at OU. Or in other words, lie. I mean, I'm a tour guide here, lying is essential to my job. Heck, it might be a requirement. Well anyways, we had some practice questions thrown at us this week. One of the questions: "Can my daughter have sex in her room?" Yea, I know what you're thinkin. NO parent would ask this, but what if? Stay with me now. How do you answer this question? Playfully, as in "Sure she can, and anywhere else." Seriously, such as "Your daughter makes her own decisions but there is no rule against it." Or how about as a pervert, such as "Sir, she can have it her room, the hallway, my room. Well, speaking of that, what's she look like? And don't miss a detail." Honestly, this is the kind of stuff that cracks me up. Feel free to add your own answer to that question in the comments at the bottom of this post. I would love to hear them.
I guess I will end this post with some sports stuff. I mean, it does take up 95% of my life (the other 5% goes to reality TV). How bout them Indiana Pacers? Got no love from anyone for that Pistons-Pacers pick. Instead, all I get is grief about saying the Wiz are gonna take down the Cavs. Well, if my math is correct, the Cavs have lost home court and well, I guess we'll hafta see but I like my chances. Also, props to the Indians for playing like the Indians for once. I mean honestly, for awhile there, I thought the OU baseball team could give them a game, and that's sayin A LOT. And though I should not do this, I wanna give some credit to the Reds. They are playing well so far, especially when it comes to hitting the ball. I mean, Bronson Arroyo has one less homerun than Barry Bonds. Now the question is will the Reds make the playoffs?? Of course not. Will they finish with a winning record? Doubt it, but hey, Cincy fans should be used to that this year. Get excited for the season just to see it fall from under them in the end (Bengals, Bearcats). Sorry Cincinnatians, but it had to be said.
Closing quote for this week isn't as philosophical. Instead, it comes from a fortune cookie that I ate three weeks ago. What did the fortune inside say?
"Everyone agrees that you are the best"
I couldn't agree more. Who said fortune cookies were never right? That's it for now kids. Maybe a weekend wrap-up on Sunday but I doubt it. 6-page papers don't write themselves...unless you are on Ohio State athlete. Then, somehow they get written while you get wasted all weekend. Until next time, have a good weekend errbody and Hakuna Matata!
