SHOULD I STUDY OR NOT?

You know, when I scheduled my classes last quarter, I never thought my Mondays would be so relaxing. I mean, I knew I would be done with class at 11am but I never thought that on any given day, I would have nothing to do. Well, that day came today and man, it was great. Let me break it down for ya....

Well after an "exciting" three hours of class, life got good. Let it be known that midterms are this week, and I do have two of them. But with neither being the next day, Hakuna Matata right? So instead, I decided to do something I haven't done for a long while, maybe almost 5 years ago: Cruise the USA on N64. Yea, that's right, I played N64 for an hour and played Cruisin' USA. Fun times? You bet ya. Now if you know me, I'm not one to sit on my ass and do nothin. But this felt good, really good. I mean, Cold Stone Creamery ice cream good. I have opened my eyes to the dark side known as laziness and relaxation. It looks like fun.

What else happened on this "Hakuna Matata" Monday? Well, I signed my life away, or at least that's what it felt like signing my lease for our apartment next year. Page after page of little words and wordy statements. It looked like a George W. Bush speech...just plain jibberish. Of course, I tried reading it over and what's sad is the one thing that caught my eye is that residents can't wear thong bathing suits in the recreation areas. How dumb is that? Let's just say it was another stepping stone in my journey to independence, which I no longer look forward to, since I have sign my name ten thousand times everytime I buy/rent/lease something now. Frustrating.

Anyways, day got better when I got to go eat at the house of the distinguished President of Ohio University. Now if you haven't been in the Prez's house (I've been twice), just picture an Ohio University museum and you've got a good sense of what the dining room looks like. Of course, right when I walk in, I expect him to remember my name from last year. With confidence, I stroll up to shake his hand, he looks me in the eye, and says, "Hello Matthew, welcome." Immediately, I am discouraged because he forgets my name. Matthew is only used by my mother and grandmother, and normally that means I'm in trouble. I distinctly remember telling the Prez last year to call me Matt. In a year's span, he had forgotten. Disappointed. I mean, I'm one of about 50 black people here at OU, you gotta remember the name. I figure he only knew my name was Matthew because of the nametag I was wearing on my shirt. That always ends to give it away. All in all, the food was good and the night went by smoothly with lively conversation and promises that their front door is always open if any problems arise. That made me think. What if I just knock on their door with some arbitrary problem, like having a hole in my pants or need 4 quarters to break a dollar? I highly doubt they'd be so receptive but hey, it's a nice gesture.

Monday ended with a huge softball win by the PreCollege team. We smoked the other team 17 to 1. Of course, my athletic talent was on full display when I struck out to end the fifth inning and our last-at-bat. Eh, story of my life. But good win overall for the PC2K6 team. While winning is on my mind, shoutout to the Indiana Pacers for a solid victory over the New Jersey Nets. I am on record saying they will meet the Pistons in the conference finals and that the Cavs will go down to the Wizards in 6 or 7. Am I going out on a limb? Yes, but why not? People who play it safe just have no guts (they instead have money in their wallets because they make better gambling decisions).

Thus, my Monday ends with this blog entry, my first full one filled with fun facts and ramblings of my day. Was this entertaining? Comment below regardless of what you think. Of course, if you know me, I'll just ignore it and keep doin whatever I want but at least you would have made your fingers useful. For now friends, I leave you with some words of wisdom, a closing quote if you will. Today's quote is simple and I got it from some website when I searched for quotes on Google. How can you not love Google? Anyways, today's closing quote is from Will Rogers:

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there"

Think about those words, let them swish around your noggin. My next entry will be coming soon. Until then, peace be the journey and Hakuna Matata!

MAB 101: INTRO TO MATT'S BLOG

Welcome friends (or stalkers) to my very first post on my very first blog. Sorry I didn't bake cookies for the occasion but I can barely cook Hamburger Helper, let alone bake cookies.

Anyways, all credit for this goes to roommate Luke, who inspired to try this out. I mean, why not keep track of the random things that come into my mind and happen in my life and then share them with the world? That's not strange is it? Didn't think so.

So what's the subject for the first blog? Hell, I don't even know. I figured I would just type and see what my fingers would spell out. So, here goes....

"Hakuna Matata" is my philosophy in life. For you Lion King illiterates, it means "no worries". At 19 years old, I have the world in front of me. Why worry right? As my roommate/philosopher-in-training Luke always says, "it is what it is". Now don't get me wrong, I might worry about a midterm or the Indians when Bob Wickman comes in to close a game, but honestly, how does worrying help anything? So after watching the movie years ago, this philosophy of life stuck. Call me weird, I don't care. If everyone had this philosophy, the world would be a better place. I guarantee it.

As I start this blog, I really do wonder what type of things to put in here. Sports rants? Great quips from the day? Recipes for beef stroganoff? Who knows...whatever pops in my mind is going right here. I'm not one to remember things unless I write them down so I might need to do that but trust me folks, this blog will be entertaining. I'm not sure if you know this, but I'm kind of a big deal. I mean, people know me. I have many paperback books and my room smells of laziness and procrastination.

So hang on peeps, the first entry is coming. For now though, I'm gonna end this rambling and try to get my life together. Look for an entry here soon...probably Monday night when I get some time to collect my thoughts and write something down people will care about. Until then, good afternoon, good evening, and good night. And of course, Hakuna Matata!
